Young Adult novel. Action adventure, mystical and romance.

18 year old Christopher is wrongly accused of drug running and sent to Mexico's prison island Islas Tres Marias. He meets Juanita, daughter of a visiting boat captain and apprentice to La Currandera, healer in Mazatlán, and together they plot his freedom.

On his birthday and unannounced to his parents, 18 year old Christopher takes his car down to Mexico to get some work done on it, where he is then falsely accused of trafficking drugs and hauled off to the Islas Tres Marias prison. Can he make it out and back home in one piece?

Unfortunately I did not find this book too enjoyable. The book’s premises sounded intriguing, but upon reading it fell very flat to me. It did not grasp me in at all, plus the third person with present tense was strange and foreign to me – I’m much more used to reading books with I guess what would be third person past tense.

There are people out there who may enjoy this story, but alas I am unfortunately not one of those people.
