Review: Fathers House by C. Edward Baldwin

The story follows Ben Lovison, an assistant district attorney in Duraleigh, North Carolina, who loves both his job and his soon to be born twins. Duraleigh is touted as one of the safest cities to live due to no gangs or street violence. But is that really the case? As Ben digs further and further into his investigation, he’s led to believe that “Uncle” Mayo Fathers, the man in charge of Fathers House, is actually running a secret drug operation from the building’s basement as well as his funeral home.

This time it’s for Jerry Kramer, the president of the Kramer, Burns advertising agency in Los Angeles. He has 10 days to do it. Sounds simple enough, right? Not exactly. Dreme runs into numerous complications, strange people, and even finds himself in a car chase. And why is Kramer’s partner Hal Burns such a ghost? What secrets are behind the doors of Kramer, Burns? It’s up to George to find out what’s going on and finish his job done before time runs out.

Review: The Silence of Six by E.C. Myers

Wow. I’m amazed. What a fantastic read. I started this book one night before bed, reading abut 50 pages before I looked at the clock and noticed it was really late. I didn’t want to put the book down, I wanted to keep going – but sleep is important too!

Review: Broken Trust by Thomas Maurin

As much as I dislike book reviews that open with “This genre usually isn’t the type I read so I was unsure if I’d like it, but ended up loving it”, I can say that about this book. Kind of.

I tend to read general young adult books, as well as the odd few fantasy and science fiction. Rarely thrillers, but clearly I’m missing out. If I remember correctly, the last time I read a thriller-type book would be Scorpia Rising from the Alex Rider series, which came out back in 2011. So yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve read a thriller. Not only that, but the amount of thrillers I have read has been far and few.

This book had quite the interesting concept. Carter Colby and Marcus Colby are identical twins in high school. Marcus is popular. Colby is not. Colby’s life changes greatly when Marcus is killed in a motorcycle accident. Marcus may be dead, but there’s one problem: Carter has his face. You can imagine how much that complicates things for his both his family and Marcus’s friends.

Review: Legacy by Ellery A. Kane

Legacy by Ellery Kane was a great read, I couldn’t put it down even though I had a big pile of school work to get to. I kept reading further and further, wondering if Lex was going to make it and if Quin was going to be alright.

The story takes place in 2041, where emotion-altering drugs like Emovere have taken over society. San Francisco, once populated by many, is now deserted. There are two sides: Guardians, a government-appointed military police force set to maintain order, and the Resistance, those who fight back. Lex’s mother drops her off at the outskirts of San Francisco with a flash drive she has to deliver. Once she finds the Resistance she takes a liking to Quin McAllister, a former Guardian Force member turned good. His past holds a lot of secrets that haunt him and make him push Lex away. Can the two of them, along with the rest of the Resistance, expose both the dangers of Emovere and corruption of the Guardians without losing one of their own?

Review: Veins by Lawrence C. Connolly

They weren’t kidding when they say Veins is a non-stop thrilling action ride. I had trouble putting the book down beginning at page one. The descriptions, style of writing incorporating mythology, and the illustrations throughout were all great. Veins is the first of three books in the Veins Cycle. The other two, Vipers and Vortex, are on my to-read list.
